Hawk Attack!

One of the top news stories of the day is that a red-tailed hawk attacked a young teenager at Fenway Park this afternoon! Apparently the hawk had built a nest on a ledge outside the Press box inside the Park and the girl, who was touring the Park, got too close and upset the hawk who attacked her and scratched her face enough to send her to the hospital!

Mass. Fish and Wildlife officers were already on their way to check out the hawks and the nest, but the attack happened before they arrived. They did check out the nest and there was an egg, a cold egg, in it. Apparently the hawk flew away after the attack and hadn't been seen since (as of 6:30 tonight). You can read more about the story here.

The Globe has a gallery of pictures from before, during, and after the attack. There are some fantastic shots: Hawk Gallery

I didn't hear this at all. Not a thing you would expect to happen in the city.

I looked at the Globe's shots; some really are amazing. The hawks are quite beautiful, but I wouldn't enjoy being dive-bombed by one!

Very interesting, I wonder if the teen did something to get the hawk mad??

I couldn't believe it when I read that. I also can't believe that you have such a late spring break. At least you might have nicer weather.

It doesn't seem as if she was doing anything. They think it was because there was an egg in the next that the hawk was very protective. Strange story!

not a bird I would want to be attacked by...Melanie did some falconry a few years back and would hunt with a red tailed hawk. They have some mighty talons. We have lots of red tailed hawks here and I love watching them fly
