Evolution of a Work Station

I like to multi-task. Or at least I find it hard not to multi-task. I have a nice "easy" chair (reclining rocker) in my living room where I spend most of my evening hours with my laptop on my lap and a cat (or sometimes two) draped on the back of the chair. I am usually doing schoolwork, or blogging, or playing Scramble on Facebook, all the while watching TV (news, Red Sox, and sometimes a TV show).

For months, now, I've been looking for a suitable table/storage vehicle to put next to the rocker so I can keep things (remotes, writing utensils, USB cable for camera, etc.) handy as I'm working. Yesterday, I hit the jackpot. I found just the thing at Home Goods for a very reasonable price. I happily brought it home and proceeded to set it up.

First, I had to find a lamp as the floor lamp would no longer work in that spot. I didn't have any with a small enough lampshade, so I tried switching some around in the hopes of finding something smaller. I was not pleased with the results, so went back to Home Goods today and found one that perfectly matches the cabinet in style and color.

Next, I found a lace placemat that would work as a table topper. Then I wanted flowers to discourage against cluttering the top up with stuff. I tried a silk arrangement first, but it wasn't the right color. Finally, I brought some from my sister's gardens (I went over there for supper of corn on the cob, salad, and vegeburger sandwiches...yum!). Of course Teddy had to smell them right away...and bite them as well (I had to move them back out of his reach)! The vase comes from the island of Syros, Greece. The basket is a gift from a student, years ago.

First of all I love love your new blog background. I visited many of your posts and it sounds like you have been crazy busy, but that is what it is all about this time of year, right? What a nice work spot you have created. We do need that place to go when the day is over. I hope all has gone well as you started the year and I also hope you have another great school year. My dear friend and principal left us in August with early retirement. On her way home from graduation in June she somehow went off the road, went down an embankment and landed in the shallow water of the lake. Very scary. She came out remarkably well considering, but her back is still giving her fits. She wasn't ready emotionally or physically to return. Tomorrow will begin a new transition.

Very nice...and inspiring, too, considering my office cleaning project!

It is more inspiring to work in a well organized spot. I haven't added the new Scrabble game to my Facebook page...Scrabulous was way too addictive!!

IEG--Yes, it's been crazy, but it's part of what I love about this time of year, too. It's been very satisfying this year. I feel for your friend. Must be very tough for you. And I'm sure you miss her, too. I wish you both well.

Heidi--good luck with your re-organization =)

Ruth--I know several people who were very upset that Facebook did away with Scrabulous. I came on board later, so don't know what I'm missing...

I too love the new background !
Home Goods is such a great place. Love going there when I am visiting my sisters. All those wonderful dishes and towels, and furniture. That piece is just so pretty that you came home with and I like the way you set it. Just perfect.
